This post kicks off something new I’m starting. I’m hoping to post a Throwback Thursday every week. I’ll dig through the archives and find an old picture or video and share it with a short story. Some of these are probably going to really test my memory.
To kick the series off, I’m starting with a picture from the first time I did any real offroad driving.
Holy shit this was more than 10 years ago! This was on Sep 24th, 2016. These Jeeps were stock (or less than stock in my case) when we bought them. This picture was during Wes and I’s inaugural trip to drive the OHV trails in Uwharrie National Forest.

We’d just finished adding suspension lifts and larger tires to our Jeeps and hit the trail! We didn’t (and still don’t) have a clue what we were doing. We survived. The suspensions we had fitted were low quality and much of mine consisted of used parts. They served the purpose and never failed us though.
One of my favorite memories of this day is us walking ahead to scout the hill climb on the Rocky Mountain Loop trail. It looked daunting to us, having no real experience in offroad driving. We were unsure if we’d make it! I was full of adrenaline driving up the climb and then my Jeep did it with ease. For many years this hill was fun but we didn’t give a second though to if we would make it. It’s fun to look back now at how inexperienced we were.
