In June of 2022, 3 of us camped in Uwharrie National Forest for two nights with the primary goal of kayaking Falls Reservoir. We loaded our kayaks on our roof racks and filled our coolers with beer and steak. We later learned that we should’ve fitted Nick’s XJ with a new alternator.

Paddling up stream with Falls Dam in the distance.
Approaching rocky waters near the spillway.
Making our way ever closer to the dam.
It’s almost unsettling to think about how much water is on the other side of the dam. I never realized the scale of this dam until I got up close. I can’t imagine what the Hoover dam is like.
Big ole’ pipes
On our way back to the ramp, we stopped by this small waterfall. Each of us got stuck in the rocky shallows several times.

There is nothing better than a proper camp steak.
On the second day, Nick’s we found that Nick’s alternator had failed at the water’s edge. I ended up towing him back to camp.
I couldn’t pass up one more photo op on the road near our campsite.
